This 9-day adventure through Northern Morocco is not just about traveling—it’s about experiencing Morocco through local eyes. At LocalXperience, we go beyond sightseeing, creating real connections with the people, culture, and landscapes that make this region so unique.

From the ancient streets of Fez, where history awaits in every alley, to the hidden mountain trails of Chefchaouen, and the untouched Mediterranean coast, this trip is a journey through the heart and soul of Northern Morocco.

Walk through the oldest Medina in the world, guided by a local, taste traditional dishes in family-run kitchens, and explore Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. Venture into the Rif Mountains, where life moves at a slower pace, and hike through national parks filled with breathtaking views—and maybe even a few Barbary macaques watching from the trees!

We’ll spend time soaking in Chefchaouen’s blue magic, uncovering the untouched beauty of Morocco’s northern landscapes, and sharing special moments with locals along the way. Then, we escape to the Mediterranean coast, where hidden beaches and charming fishing villages offer the perfect place to reflect on our journey.

 Day 1 | Arrival in Fez – Welcome to the Heart of Morocco

⁠Pickup from Fez-Saïss Airport and transfer to our traditional riad in the medina, where time seems to stand still.

⁠⁠Wander through Fez’s hidden alleyways before our first dinner in a family-owned restaurant, where we’ll taste handmade pastilla and slow-cooked tagines—a feast everyone.

Day 2 | Fez – Dive Into the Ancient Medina

→ Guided walking tour with a local expert through one of the world’s oldest living medieval cities.
 
→ Step inside artisan workshops, where craftsmen have been perfecting their skills for centuries.
 
→ Visit the iconic Chouara Tanneries, the Al-Qarawiyyin University (world’s oldest university!), and wander through the endless maze of Fez’s market stalls and spice souks.
 
→ Afterwards there will be free time to enjoy the bustling souk. We are going to visit some of our favorite local vendors, for those of you who want to join.
 
→ In the afternoon, we’ll step away from the hustle and visit a hidden viewpoint over the city, sipping mint tea while the call to prayer echoes around us.
 
→ End the day with an optional hammam experience, a true Moroccan ritual of relaxation.

Day 3 | Fez to Meknes – Imperial Majesty & Hidden Gems

→ Early morning road trip to Meknes, Morocco’s most underrated imperial city, often overshadowed but rich in history.

→ Walk through Bab Mansour, the grandest gate in Morocco, before diving into the local souks—a chance to see daily life without the tourist crowds

→ Visit a local family-run olive farm, tasting some of the country’s best olives and olive oil.
 
→ Optional visit to the nearby Roman ruins of Volubilis, where ancient mosaics tell the stories of a time long past.
 
→ Evening stroll through the tranquil Meknes medina, where we’ll enjoy dinner in a hidden courtyard restaurant.

Day 4 | Meknes to Chefchaouen – The Blue Pearl Awaits

→ Scenic drive through the Rif Mountains towards Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco.

→ Afternoon local-led city walk, where we’ll skip the touristy streets and explore hidden corners, artist studios, and tiny family-owned bakeries, where bread is still baked the old way.

→ End the day with a mint tea at a secret rooftop, watching the sky turn pink over the blue-washed town.

Day 5 | Into the Rif Mountains – The Soul of Northern Morocco ⛰️

→ Time to venture beyond the town—we head deep into the Rif Mountains, where ancient Berber villages dot the landscape.

→ Guided hike with local mountain guides, taking trails only known to locals.

→ Surprise experience: A unique cultural encounter deep in the mountains, where we’ll share food, music, and stories with local families.

→ Return to Chefchaouen in the evening, where we’ll gather for a traditional mountain-style dinner—flavors completely different from the rest of Morocco.

Day 6 | Wild Nature & Monkeys of the Rif

→ Another day of adventure! We’ll hike deeper into Talassemtane National Park, searching for Morocco’s wild Barbary macaques swinging through the trees.

→ Discover hidden waterfalls, natural pools, and breathtaking ridges overlooking the valleys below.
 
→ Enjoy a picnic in the wild, prepared by our local friends.
 
→ Free time in the evening at the blue pearl, maybe a casual rooftop dinner, or one last wander through the blue streets by moonlight.

📍 Day 7 | Off to the Mediterranean Coast – A Hidden Escape

→ Leave the mountains behind as we head towards a secret spot along the Mediterranean coast—far from the tourist crowds.

→ Check into a charming coastal retreat, where we’ll wake up to the sound of waves.
 
→ Spend the afternoon relaxing by the sea, exploring local fishing villages, or simply enjoying Moroccan tea in a tiny beach café.
 
→ Tonight, we dine on the freshest seafood, straight from the boats of local fishermen.

📍 Day 8 | Slow Living by the Sea

Take the morning slow with an optional boat trip or a guided coastal hike, discovering secret coves, hidden caves, and untouched beaches only locals know about.
 
Meet local fishermen, learn about their centuries-old traditions, and maybe even help pull in a fishing net!
 
Our final night in Morocco ends with a farewell feast—grilled fish, vibrant salads, and traditional Berber bread, baked fresh in a clay oven.

📍 Day 9 | Departure from Tangier – Until We Meet Again

 Morning transfer to Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport or optional free time to explore the whitewashed old town before saying goodbye to Morocco.
 
One last goodbye mint tea, because we know you’ll be back.
